Getting the Seed to the Feeder

Reminder: Only a week left to participate in ProjectPhoenix!

On to more mundane stuff... Speaking strictly for myself, feeding the birds typically proves to be the slightest of hassles. No matter what vessel I use, getting the seed from the bin to the feeders always tempts spillage. Why the fuss? The distance is only a couple dozen yards...

Alrighty then! Let's see if we can't come up with some sort of solution... What I really want is something like a butler's tray. And there's one now!

In fact, a butler's tray with some holes in it to hold the pails will do quite nicely. The holes need to be large enough to seat the containers, but not so large that the buckets would fall through. Problem solved.

To make matters even easier, at least one craft supply chain sells butler trays for under $10. And if that doesn't fit the budget, a piece of plywood should do in a pinch.

I guess this offers a good segue into the subject of the winter project. Last winter we built a birdhouse. What should we do this year? To be honest, I've been thinking about building either a bat house, or a raptor nesting platform. Thankfully, I've got a friend whose house abuts conservation land... (Yeah Jeff, I'm talking about you.) Maybe a "hawk cam" or an "owl cam"? I don't know... What do you think?

See you by those creative feeders!

I am sorry to see that there is no information about the huge oil spill in San Francisco Bay.

{CCA replies: Good call Rick... I should have mentioned that spill... I'll write my next post concerning this tragedy including info on how to help out. The problem I face is that of an enormity of sorrow. Aside from the wildfires and the oil spill, a cyclone (Sidr) slammed into coastal Bangladesh killing at least 2,000 people and causing substantial damage to wildlife... But I will address the spill...

Thanks again for bringing this up...}
