Nature Walk
I started down by the Herring River and grabbed a few shots through the reeds and cat-tails. The colors were amazing, and the sun was just right for some breath-taking shots.
Most of the active bird life has migrated already, but I did see an annoying kingfisher who let me get the tripod set up and the camera aimed before he flitted into the woods, cackling at me. Stupid bird. A neighboring sparrow, however, was much more complaisant, and held his pose long enough for me to get a good shot.
As I was heading down the river, I came across a brilliant Japanese maple and simply had to stop and take a shot.
I headed to the beach to see if any hardy souls were braving the sea breeze to take in the sun. Not a one. Quite different from three months ago, when there were bikinis, beach towels, and suntan lotion everywhere!
I ended my trek at one of the local conservation areas just down the road from home. This must be what Robert Frost had in mind when he wrote, "The Road Not Taken."
After such a wild and beautiful journey in my own town, I was glad to get back home to our much less exotic but no less beautiful backyard birds.
See you by those fall feeders,
Mrs. CapeCodAlan
