eBirdseed.com Wild Bird Feeding Blog

Hi, I'm a new blogger to eBirdseed.com. For my introductory blog, I'd like to tell you a little about myself and how I come to be online at eBirdseed. San Diego County has been home for 35 years. Mountains, desert, beaches, outdoor activities and moderate year-round climate are enjoyed here. I recently read that according to the Department of Birds and Mammals at the San Diego Natural History Museum, 492 species of birds have been recorded within the county, more than in any other county in North America! Wow! I haven't always taken an interest in birds. In fact, I used to think anyone who did birdwatching or paid any attention at all to birds was slightly goofy. However, living with a mynah and now a cockatiel has helped me appreciate our feathered friends -- their intelligence, sociability and unique personalities. When I moved to scenic Fallbrook in North San Diego County, I noticed that birds would congregate by my back porch to nibble discarded cockatiel seed I tossed when cleaning his feed cup. Soon I was searching the internet to find an online source for wild birdseed -- and I became "hooked" on backyard wild bird feeding. As a photography student and hiker, I enjoy photographing all types of wildlife and natural scenery. Somehow, I have morphed into a "bird photographer." My name is Alan Speakman... My wife Suzie and I live on Cape Cod MA., and I'll be contributing to this Blog... I guess a disclosure of a bit of my background is in order...

I'm 47 years old, and have been feeding (and studying) the backyard birds and whatnot for as long as I can remember.

As for more professional training and experience, I hold two A.S. degrees, (one in Psychology, and one in Microprocessor Technology), a B.S. in Computer Engineering, and I have begun work on my Masters in Library Science at Simmons College in Boston. My work/writing experience pretty much runs the gamut... I've done every odd job imaginable, and as a professional have worked as a(n) engineer/senior engineer/software support representative/programmer for the likes of Microsoft, Olympus, etc.

The last three years of my corporate life were spent as a technical writer and developer of computer-based training software. Recently, I've been working for myself as a computer consultant.

My hobbies include digital photography, boatbuilding, woodworking, bird watching, and messing about with computers, (I consider myself a public hazard in all the aforementioned areas.)

Just to give you a heads up concerning the types of blogs I'm going to post... Don't expect the ol' "Company Advertisement in the Guise of a Blog" routine... Nope. Not even close... Here are some of the blogs I'm working on:
